my musical path began at age 4 when I saw Herbie Hancock's Rockit video. At age 12 I got my first little electronic drum kit, then soon after a cheap trap kit. I played in metal bands until I discovered raves in 1999 and got my first turntables and DAW soon after; I actively DJ'd until 2005, when I was sidelined by MS.
as a teen I got very into early 90's thrash and speed metal, then later punk rock, and played in multiple small town go nowhere garage bands with my friends. our main project over the years was called
"the oven people."
I became obsessed with scratching at age 4 when I heard Herbie Hancock's Rockit. I practiced that scratch on the straps of my backpack on the bus in grade school. I got my first turntables in 1999 and began dj'ing in the Houston rave scene until partial hearing loss due to MS forced me into retirement for a few years. I came out of retirement officially in in 2013 and have continued to this day. I have many pseudonyms spanning many genres, although today I am reunifying under the moniker mr nobones.
I got my first copy of Acid DJ and fruityloops in 1999, and moved onto ableton when it was in version 4. I'm largely self taught, though I did have the opportunity to learn from the great Peter Martin for a few years. I have never been a prolific music producer but I have tried to stay consistent over the years in translating the sounds in my head into a digital format that others can listen to.
in 2010 I had the amazing opportunity to intern under the great mr Mark Hallman at the legendary Congress House studio in Austin, TX. I spent a little over a year there learning how to record music, use pro tools in traditional outboard mixing environment, run recording sessions, studied mixing and mastering techniques, as well as had the opportunity to work with many bands and singer / songwriters and help translate their music into fully produced albums.
I have always been a beatboxer, a foley artist, impressionist, and other avenues of enjoying using my voice. I began experimenting with singing back in my punk rock days, then later inspired by the style of Clutch's Neil Fallon, played with multitrack layered vocals. Around 2005 I began exploring hip hop, and the art of lyricism and MC'ing.
